Mets Look to Secure First Series Win of 2025
The New York Mets enter Game 3 of their opening series against the Houston Astros with a chance to secure their first series win of the season. After splitting the first two games, this matchup provides an opportunity to establish early momentum.
The Mets have shown promising signs in the early going, with a strengthened lineup and a bullpen that has performed well. In just two games, Soto has already hit his first home run in a Mets uniform and demonstrated patience at the plate, recording three walks and reaching base consistently.

Pete Alonso appears to be adjusting his approach at the plate, focusing on patience, which could prove beneficial over the long season. Brandon Nimmo, now hitting in the cleanup spot, is also getting opportunities early and capitalizing on them. Mark Vientos has also contributed, driving in key runs.
Another area of interest is the outfield rotation. Jose Siri has yet to make an appearance, with Tyrone Taylor getting the starts instead. The decision seems to be based on matchups rather than performance, as both players had similar numbers in spring training. Siri may see playing time in Game 3.
One clear strength so far has been the bullpen. With Jose Butto and Max Kranick available for Game 3, manager Carlos Mendoza has multiple options to cover innings. Additionally, late-game relievers Edwin Díaz and Ryan Stanek are in position to close out a potential win.
The pitching matchup for Game 3 features Spencer Arrighetti and Griffin Canning. Arrighetti, a high-strikeout rookie, has shown flashes of potential but struggled with consistency. Canning, in his first year with the Mets, has a track record of limiting damage, even against strong hitters like Yordan Alvarez. A solid outing from Canning could set up the bullpen for success.
Beyond the major league roster, there have been notable performances in the Mets’ minor league system. Blade Tidwell had a strong Triple-A debut, pitching five innings and allowing just one run. While the organization appears to have depth in pitching, the offensive production in Syracuse has been less encouraging.
As the Mets take the field for Game 3, they have more than just a win at stake. This game presents a chance to establish consistency, see contributions from key players, and determine how the roster may evolve. While the team is still taking shape, early signs suggest a solid foundation moving forward.
